The U.S. may have bowed out of the World Cup before it even began, but that hardly dampened the Charleston Riverdogs’ World Cup fever. The Riverdogs made good on their “Fun is Good” motto with a crowd-pleasing soccer promotion (no really, soccer can be fun, too).
Charleston fans lined up early for World Cup Night—the first 1,000 fans to enter Riley Park received soccer jerseys sporting the team’s custom RiverDog crest—and stuck around late for a postgame kick around on the field. In-between, the evening featured a variety of soccer-themed promotions, including an on-field game of giant beer pong (feet only), a soccer match between the front offices of the Riverdogs and the local United Soccer League team, and of course some flopping by the mascots.
The promotion worked. The crowd was the biggest of the season on a Saturday night for the Riverdogs and helped spread their brand with some cool new jerseys.
